On a warm September evening, we drove to the Domaine de la Bouvaude vineyard in Rousset-les-Vignes. We’d bought tickets for ‘Entre Vignes et Lumières’, an evening walk through illuminated vineyards. In the spring, there’s a lavender-themed version: ‘Entre Lavande et Lumières’.

On arrival, we were welcomed with a nice glass of wine. Whilst we were enjoying it, Mother Nature treated us to a stunning sunset.

Welcome drink

After the welcome drink, we – along with two other couples – were welcomed into the wine cellar, where we were given a briefing. We were provided with headphones, as during the walk you listen to music, commentary and stories. Four languages are available: French, English, Dutch and German.

We set off through the beautifully lit wine cellar. It was a fairytale walk! The route was subtly lit, and at a number of points there was a light show. We found ourselves face to face with a wolf, but also with a talking tree!

Tip: sturdy footwear is definitely essential. You’ll walk about 2 kilometres amongst the vines, and there are some changes in elevation. If you’re a bit unsteady on your feet, bring a walking stick. If you’re staying with us and don’t have a walking stick, we’ll lend you one.

Bookings can be made online via the Domaine de la Bouvaude website. You can also book a simple picnic if you wish. Afterwards, there’s plenty of time to taste the estate’s wines. Admission is free for children aged 7 and under.
